2017 Midyear Conference

The Philippine Association of Catholic Religious Educators, Inc. (PACRE) is celebrating this year its 2nd Founding Anniversary (2015-2017). To fittingly celebrate this milestone, the Association will hold a Midyear Conference on September 30, 2017 (Saturday) from 8:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. at the President’s Hall of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos. The theme of the conference is “Young People and Being Catholic in the Philippines: Perspectives on Current Trends in Religious Education.”  As integral part of the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Program of the Association, the conference aims to enrich the content and pedagogy of religion/values education teachers and strengthen their fellowship.

We have invited DR. JAYEEL S. CORNELIO as our resource speaker of the conference. He is the director of the Development Studies Program at the Ateneo de Manila University and treasurer of the Philippine Sociological Society. Dr. Cornelio has held visiting posts at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Lancaster University, MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology, and Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu (Romania). He was also a postdoctoral research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity in Göttingen, Germany. Dr. Cornelio is the author of Being Catholic in the Contemporary Philippines: Young People Reinterpreting Religion (Routledge 2016). Recently, the National Academy of Science and Technology has named him the 2017 Outstanding Young Scientist in the field of Sociology.

In this regard, I am inviting all religion teachers to take part in this conference for professional enrichment and fellowship. As educators of Catholic schools, we need to permeate the Catholic faith in our educational goals and activities. Accordingly, we need to understand how our students view and practice their being Filipino Catholics so that we can effectively evangelize and transform them as agents of social transformation.

The registration fee per participant is Php500.00 (PACRE Member) and Php700.00 (Non-Member) inclusive of lunch, 2 snacks, and a certificate. The registration fee will be paid in the venue.

Since we can only accommodate a limited number of participants, please secure a seat/s in the conference by accomplishing the Pre-Registration Form (see attached page) on or before September 23, 2017. Submit the form to Dr. Madrigal at UNO-R Religious Education Department or email it to dennis_madrigal@yahoo.com. For further inquiries, you may call or text at this number: 09399665534.

Thank you and looking forward to seeing you and your teachers at the conference.
