2nd PACRE Research Conference

The Philippine Association of Catholic Religious Educators, Inc. (PACRE) is celebrating this year its 2nd Founding Anniversary (2015-2017). To fittingly celebrate this milestone, the Association will hold the 2nd Annual Research Conference on December 9, 2017 (Saturday) from 8:00 A.M. until 5:30 P.M. The theme of the conference is “Responding to the Challenges of Catholic Education through Research.”

The conference aims to help us build and strengthen the research competence and fellowship of religion teachers, research students, and teachers.

We have invited DR. ENRIQUE G. ORACION as our resource speaker.  He is currently the Dean of Graduate Programs at Silliman University. He has written 41 single-authored and 14 co-authored papers published in various journals here and abroad. As an accomplished researcher, he received the 2005 CHED Republica Awards for Social Science Research and 2016 CHED Republica Qualifier for Social Science Zonal Winner for Regions VI and VII. Dr. Oracion holds a bachelor and master’s degree in Sociology (Silliman University) and doctoral degree in Anthropology (University of San Carlos). His talk will focus on the Perspectives and Challenges in Quantitative Research.

Likewise, there will also be plenary presentations of all accepted research papers in the afternoon.

Thus, we are inviting religion teachers and research enthusiasts to take part in this conference for research enrichment and fellowship.  The registration fee per participant is Php500.00 (PACRE Member) and Php700.00 (Non-Member) inclusive of lunch, 2 snacks, and a certificate.

Dr. Jayeel Cornelio talks about “Young People and Being Catholic in the Philippines”

DR. JAYEEL S. CORNELIO will be the invited speaker at PACRE’s Midyear Conference on September 30, 2017 (Saturday) from 8:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. at the President’s Hall of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos.

He will talk about the theme of the conference: “Young People and Being Catholic in the Philippines: Perspectives on Current Trends in Religious Education.”  The conference aims to enrich the content and pedagogy of religion/values education teachers and strengthen their fellowship.

The speaker is Associate Professor and the Director of the Development Studies Program at the Ateneo de Manila University.  He is one of the editors of the journal Social Sciences and Missions (Brill) and treasurer of the Philippine Sociological Society (PSS).

He has held visiting posts at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Lancaster University, and Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology.  In 2017 he was at Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu in Romania on an Erasmus+ Teaching Mobility grant.  He was also a postdoctoral research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity in Göttingen, Germany from 2012-2014.

The broad theme of his work is religion and social change.  He is the author of Being Catholic in the Contemporary Philippines: Young People Reinterpreting Religion, published by Routledge in 2016.  He also served as guest editor of the special issue of Philippine Studies: Historical and Ethnographic Viewpoints on Filipino Catholicism and of the Asian Journal of Social Science on Religious Philanthropy in Asia.  His scholarly writings have appeared in various leading journals such as Religion, State and Society, the Review of Faith and International Affairs, the European Journal of East Asian Studies, and Journal of Communication.

For his work on popular religion, he received the Virginia A. Miralao Excellence in Research Award from the Philippine Social Science Council in 2015.  In 2017 the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST, PHL) has named him one of the eight Outstanding Young Scientists of the country.

He is a regular contributor to Rappler, obtained the MSocSci in Applied Sociology and the PhD in Sociology from the National University of Singapore as a recipient of the Graduate Scholarship for ASEAN Nationals and a competitive doctoral grant from the Asia Research Institute. He also received the Lee Foundation Prize for graduating top of his class.

2017 Midyear Conference

The theme of the conference is “Young People and Being Catholic in the Philippines: Perspectives on Current Trends in Religious Education.”  As integral part of the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Program of the Association, the conference aims to enrich the content and pedagogy of religion/values education teachers and strengthen their fellowship.

2nd PACRE Annual Research Conference Call for Papers

The research conference aims to provide a platform for Catholic religion professors, educators, and researchers to engage in critical discussion and exchange of ideas and issues related to the conference theme. Likewise, it also seeks to promote and strengthen the culture of research in Catholic schools by enhancing the research competence of religion teachers.

Students, teachers, and researchers in religious education and related disciplines are invited to submit papers and proposals that cover any of the following themes: Religious Education Curriculum and Methodology, Spirituality of Religious Educators, Campus Ministry, Engagement in School/Community Religious Activities, Catholic Education in the Philippines, Management of Catholic Schools, Current Trends, Issues, and Challenges in Catholic Education, and other related topics.  Special consideration will be given to articles that present analyses and interpretation of empirical data.

 

SUBMISSION DEADLINES:

Submission of Abstract – July 30, 2017

Notification of Acceptance of the Abstract – October 30, 2017

Submission of Full Revised Paper – November 15, 2017

Conference – December 9, 2017

 

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACT AND FULL PAPERS

For individual or multiple authors, please submit an abstract (max. 500 words) with three keywords that provide a synthesis of the paper to the Philippine Association of Catholic Religious Educators (PACRE), Inc. through Dr. Dennis V. Madrigal at the University of Negros Occidental – Recoletos (Email address: dennis_madrigal@yahoo.com). Deadline for submission of abstract is on July 30, 2017.

All submissions will undergo a multiple blind review process. All review results will be shared to the author(s). Those who have had their abstracts accepted will submit the full paper on or before September 15, 2017.

The submission of the full paper will be on November 15, 2017.  Those who have their full revised papers accepted for presentation will be formally invited by the program committee via email. Papers will only be included in the conference program after paying the conference fee.

 

PROTOCOL FOR FULL-LENGTH PAPERS

**Adapted from SEAAIR Protocols for Full Paper (2015) 

 1. The full paper should follow the standard format set for international publication.

2. Manuscripts should be single-spacing throughout. The orientation of the page is to be portrait only.

3. Manuscripts should have a 2.5 cm (1 inch) of margin at each side of the page.

4. Headings should be Times New Roman 12 point bold.

5. Text should be Times New Roman 11 point. Text should be left aligned. Italics may be used to emphasize any points the authors wish to. Please do not use underline.

6. The full paper manuscripts should be no longer than 5000 words (or 10 pages, whichever comes first), inclusive of abstracts, graphs, tables, and references. Papers with more than 10 pages will not be reviewed but requested for re-submission.

7. The manuscript should incorporate all tables and figures where appropriate and displayed in the main body of the paper itself.

8. Tables and figures should be in word processing format, void of colors or fancy formats.

9. The manuscripts should be structured in the following order:

 The Title of the Paper – The title of the paper should be in Times New Roman 14 pt, bold, and the first letter of each main word is capitalized.

 Author and Contact Details – Contact details should include affiliation and email in italics.

 Abstract – Abstracts are required for all papers. It should approximately between 150-250 words and contain the following: background of the study, methodology, results, and conclusions.

 Keywords – Three to five keywords should be included for indexing purposes.

 The Body of the Paper – In the text of the paper, page numbering must start from the beginning of the text, at the bottom center of each page. It should include the introduction or the rationale of the study, statement of the problem, framework of the study, methodology (design, participants, data collection, data treatment, and analysis), results and discussion, implication, conclusions, and recommendations.

References Cited – Use the newest edition of the American Psychological Association (APA) for format and style.

PACRE Officers attend seminar on Accounting for Non-Accountants

Three PACRE Officers—Dr. Dennis Madrigal, Ms. Ophelia Caytiles, and Br. John Paul Domasian— attended a Lecture–Seminar on Basic Accounting for Non-Accountants on June 10, 2017 from 8:30 A.M. until 4:00 P.M. at the VP Conference Room of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, Bacolod City.

Organized by Recoletos de Bacolod Graduate School graduate students enrolled in Financial Management (Summer 2017), the seminar discussed the fundamentals of Accounting applied to the school setting. Likewise, the seminar was timely and relevant for the members of PACRE finance committee as they prepare the audited annual financial statement of the Association for submission.

Ms. Maria Cecilia J. Genovate, CPA was the resource speaker. She teaches Accounting subjects at the College of Business and Accountancy of the University.
