Secondly, we were able to encourage and mentor a good number of religion teachers to enroll in the program since 2016. In fact, the PACRE is expecting to have its first graduates in the program by March 2019.

Midyear Conference. The Association held a Midyear Conference last September 30, 2017, at the President’s Hall of the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos. The theme of the conference is “Young People and Being Catholic in the Philippines: Perspectives on Current Trends in Religious Education.” As integral part of the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) Program of the Association, the conference aims to enrich the content and pedagogy of religion/values education teachers and strengthen their fellowship. We invited Dr. Jayeel S. Cornelio as our resource speaker of the conference. He is the director of the Development Studies Program at the Ateneo de Manila University. Dr. Cornelio talked about his book, Being Catholic in the Contemporary Philippines: Young People Reinterpreting Religion. The conference was attended by a total of 70 participants.

Research Conference. The Association was able to organize two research conferences. The conference hopes to help us build and strengthen the research competence and fellowship of religion teachers, research students and teachers.

The 1st Research Conference was held on December 21, 2016, with the theme, “Communion and Mission.”  Dr. Enrique G. Oracion talked about Qualitative Research and Writing a Publishable Paper. The following papers were presented at the conference:

  • Shemot: A People Remembered written by Fr. Deo Camon, PhD. It was launched last April 8, 2018.
  • PACRE Constitution and Bylaws (May 2018)

B. MEMBERSHIP AND ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT OF MEMBERS

There was an active participation of the members as evidenced by their attendance in the different conferences and lectures organized by the Association.  Campaign recruitment activities were organized in the southern and northern Negros Catholic schools last June 2016 and March 2017. In addition, the Association extended its membership to religion and campus ministers of the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) in Cebu and Pandan Bay Institute and to teachers in public schools teaching values education as associate members. As of January 2018, the Association has been in contact with DLSU-Dasmarinas and San Sebastian College-Recoletos, Cavite City for possible membership of their religion teachers.

We have continuously reached out to religion teachers in different parochial/private Catholic schools in the diocese, Kabankalan Catholic College, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel College, Sagay City and CST-R and Colegio de Sta. Rita in San Carlos City. But so far, we have not received a positive response from these schools.

As of April 14, 2018, PACRE has a total of 94 members. The following are interesting observations:

  • In terms of affiliation, 80 (85.1%) came from Catholic schools and 14 (14.9%) from other affiliations.
  • Only fifty-seven (57) or 60.64% renewed their membership last May 2018.
  • The farthest members came from Pandan, Antique (PBI) and Cebu City (USJ-R).
  • Out of 19 Catholic schools, only 2 are parochial schools.
  • 50% of members came from big Catholic schools: UNO-R, USLS, SSA-B, CSA-B, and LCC-B
  • New members came from Don Bosco Institute, Riverside College, and Pandan Bay Institute.

C. COMMUNITY OUTREACH ACTIVITIES

To demonstrate the social relevance of the Association, the Committee on Community Outreach organized or partnered with individuals and groups for community outreach engagements.  From May 2016-April 2017, the Committee engaged in the following activities:

  1. An in-service training to administrators and teachers of San Ramon Nonato Catholic School in Himamaylan City held last May 2016 in partnership with UNO-R College of Education with Dr. Madrigal as one of the invited speakers.
  2. A lecture on the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist in September 2016 to 150 participants at Panaad Sports Complex given by Dr. Ronnie Galzote

D. RESOURCE MOBILIZATION

The Association operates on a very tight budget. For our financial resources, we depend on the membership fee and annual dues, revenues from the lectures and conferences, and benefactors/sponsors. However, despite our meager resources, the Association has been providentially blessed by God with what we need to sustain all our programs and activities. The Association is still financially stable and the next set of officers (FY 2018-2021) will have a decent savings to utilize for their projects and activities.

E. INTERNAL EFFICIENCY AND EXTERNAL AFFAIRS

  1. Regular Monthly Board Meeting. The monthly board meetings of the members of the Executive Board were regularly held every last Sunday of the month from 2:00-5:00 P.M. The Executive Board had a total 21 meetings for the FY 2016-2018.
  2. The registration of the Association to Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) last February 16, 2016.
  3. The Association inked a Memorandum of Agreement with the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R) making the University as PACRE headquarters from 2016 until 2019.
  4. PACRE online presence: www.pacre.org; Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/PACRE2015/

PART II. UNFINISHED PROJECTS

  1. Annual Research Journal on Religion and Education
  2. Search for PACRE Outstanding Religion Teachers
  3. Seminars with CPD units for Religion Teachers

PART III. CHALLENGES

Making PACRE relevant, sustainable, active, and reputable professional and national society of religion teachers beyond Bacolod and Negros is quite a challenge. But we can accomplish this active participation, support, prayers, and commitment.

In behalf of PACRE Executive Board (FY 2016-2018), I would like to thank everyone for giving us the chance to serve you. Likewise, we would like to thank you for your active participation and support to us and to the Association. May God bless us all and our Association.
